If you’ve owned rugs like the ones we sell, or if you’re researching a first purchase, you’ll have learned one thing about Oriental rugs: each piece is unique; each has its own story.

This tends to be true of dealers as well, and O’Bannon Oriental Rugs is no different in that respect. Our story began in 1975 when the late Asia scholar George O’Bannon left academia to pursue his passion for this thousand-year-old art. George was more than a scholar; he was patient and creative at finding the right carpet for the decor...or even helping design the decor around a special piece. He understood the lifetime value of a good match.

Today, Kristen Rockwell, the current owner, is proud to be the steward of that tradition. She combines the O’Bannon heritage with her own scholarship in fiber art at Carnegie Mellon University and Syracuse University in London. Her story includes extensive art-management experience and invaluable field experience in the markets of Istanbul, Bursa, Konya and Cappadocia.

True to the tradition, O’Bannon’s remains a personal business. When you step into our showroom, you’ll encounter the art everywhere: underfoot, on the walls, surrounding you with centuries of harmony and craft. We see our mission as providing you with the knowledge and imagination -- and the time and attention -- you need to match the art to your own environment.
